fave books

Here is the list of my favourite books. (Date) is date last read.

Official favourites (5 stars)

Rated 5 stars and the ones that would come to my mind first. I have only read these once but the more time passes, the more I feel like I'm due a reread to see their consolidation.

  • The Goldfinch ()
  • Tiny Beautiful Things ()
  • The Library at Mount Char ()
  • The Catcher in the Rye ()

Other (4.5-4.75)

  • American Elsewhere
    • I did not realise it for a long time, but this book has kept popping up in my mind since I last read it (as an audiobook actually) in 2019
  • So Sad Today
    • Examplar of the kind of personal essays that I love, in slightly the same vein as Tiny Beautiful Things maybe?
    • I feel like writing wise, I would love to write like this, about these kind of topics. A true hit.
  • The Bloody Chamber
    • How I love folklore and fairy tales... Probably what consolidated my love of them as an adult and made me truly want to be more knowledgeable. Loved the flavour of the themes and writing.

Books I really like but would not consider favourites

Why the fuck am I including them here then? Because I think they are representative of my taste and I incredibly enjoyed them nonetheless.

  • In Ascension
  • Nettle & Bone
  • Dirt Town

Past favourites

Books that I read much younger that I considered favourites then, not so much now

  • No Pasaran ()
    • My first "real book" favourite, insane pick. Came to read it as it was on my shelf from my brother's studies. I loved the entire trilogy. Read it when I was about 11, then read the first volume that got adapted into a comic; re-read the first volume in high-school and it obviously did not hit the same. However, would love to have and read the entirety of the series as a comic-book, I still find the drawing beautiful.
  • Aristotle and Dante ()
    • I remember distinctly the moment in the library when I bought it, reading a bit of it in the car in the summer heat. First time I ever read about gay characters. I once landed it to a friend and she was sooo unimpressed with that "twist" lol.
  • To Kill a Mocking Bird ()
    • Was gifted this as birthday present, read it around 15 years old. I still can't pinpoint why exactly I loved it so much. I think maybe because it was one of the first truly adult books that I read, and yet are so fit for teens, I don't know.
