Philosophy

So You Want to Learn Philosophy

I have started Susan Rigetti's philosophy reading program which I find comprehensive and well written (in my inexperienced opinion). I looked a bit into her life, and she really inspired me, which I found adds some texture to the whole thing.

I should be writing notes here after completing each section, what I've learned and probably my humble thoughts.....

Progress

Still in the "Preparation" phase,

  • Read On the Shortness of Life by Seneca a couple times.
  • Read The Guide to the Good Life by W. B. Irvine [review].
  • Currently reading Think by Blackburn.

My interest

What sparked my interest in philosophy are my own reflections and questions, most notably about meaning.

When I was a child, I remember having existential crises about how crazy life was, how it didn't make sense that we were just a bunch of atoms and blood cells. How surreal it all felt.

I also had philosophy classes in school, and I was engaged in it, but as with every thing related to school, I did not get much out of it.

I'm mainly interested in learning about nihilism and adjacents currents regarding the meaning of life, as well as moral scepticism. However I feel like I need some overall comprehension of the field hence why the first half of this page.
